Æthelmearc Minister of Arts and Sciences Spring Report (6/16/2026)

Current Plans:

Work continues on updating the A&S website with the addition of pages providing information about our kingdom’s most notable A&S events as well as a page for Pursuing A&S within the SCA. Our office has also created an A&S Discussion Email List open to A&S officers, guild leaders and anyone with interest in A&S–email ans@aethelmearc.org to join. We also recently gave an interview to promote our progress and long-term plans in the AEthelmearc Gazette .

Future Plans:

We plan to continue with website updates by adding a regional events section and a resources page complete with a new EZ Documentation Sheet to support officers and activity runners. Please provide feedback on these updates where asked for on our social media and the new A&S Discussion list. We are looking forward to upcoming Officer meetings and future discussions on AI, and plan to include this guidance in the updates to our kingdom A&S handbook.

Thanks to Groups who sent their reports: (Your Reports make ours Possible)

Barony of Blackstone Mountain, Shire of Ballachlagan, Shire of Misty Highlands, Barony-Marche of Debatable Lands, Shire of Hunter’s Home, Barony of Endless Hills, The Barony of St. Swithin’s Bog, Shire of Nithgaard, Shire of Heronter, Barony of Delftwood, Chancellors of the Æcademy as well as, the Æthelmearc Clothiers, Forresters, Moneyer’s, Herbal and Apothecary, and Royal Assassins Guilds

Remarkable A&S Activities this Quarter:

We recently held A&S Fair and Queens Prize Tourney which is a non-competitive complement to our Annual Kingdom A&S championships. Many artisans and knowledgeable advisors turned out for the event and many fine works of art were on display. Congratulations to Lady Aldanza Wolthus for being named the Queen’s Prize.

A&S Competitions this Quarter:

The Barony of Blackstone Mountain and the Clothiers Guild hosted the 3rd annual Project Promenade.  This year’s winning team was the MODA YODAs with team members: Maestra Agnella Iacopi, Freiherrin Helena Mutzhasen, THL Lisabetta di Rossi, THL Lartia Cerva, THLMagdalena Txoperena, and model, THLChristian Goldenlok who presented a late-period German ensemble.

A Beverage Competition was held at War Practice.  Lady Gesa Wellenstein offered a lovely interactive display on herbal infusions she designed and brewed herself. Excellent work and with some advice on looking for period examples, she’s gone down the rabbit holes of historical infusions. Baron Caleb Renolds won with his distilled cinnamon water.

Commendations:

Felice of Warwick and Caitlin of Tintagel have embarked upon a project to make the Deltwood’s  Baronial Gold Key more versatile and inviting, by adding beadwork, trim, lace, and modesty panels to several dresses and expanding their size options. Such acts of A&S service are commendable and make the SCA more inviting for newcomers.

Imotep of Delftwood is doing it all and has been a regular presence in their community: weaving, pottery, embroidery, costuming, plant dying, and more. They are a relative newcomer with enthusiasm for learning ALL the things A&S. They have become both Deputy Chatelaine and Outreach Coordinator of the local chapter of a National Embroiderer’s Guild with the intent to create cross-event demonstrations.

Gesa Wellenstein has been doing good work in studies of equestrian history, as well as scrolls, and largess. She has a great feel for living history and applies her research to her rural life.

Julius Gautieri has been making various pieces of historical garb and assisting others in learning to make garb for themselves.

Arts and Sciences Report at Kingdom Curia 1/28/2026

Greetings Aethlemearc,

As Antoinette and I step into the Kingdom Office of the Arts and Sciences, we would like to thank THL Maggie Rue and THL Mairin O’Cadhla for serving faithfully in this office before us. We hope to carry on their passion for the Arts and do right by the A&S community.

Since we are new to the office, our report will be very brief.

  1. We have put out an A&S representative Roll Call for all individuals who report to our office. This is a form that we will use to update our website rosters and collect feedback about how best we can serve the Arts and Sciences within Aethelmearc. This Roll Call request has been shared via email and social media, if you are responsible for a quarterly A&S report, are an A&S officer or head of a kingdom-chartered guild, please participate.
  2. At the upcoming Coronation of our Royal Highnesses Oliver and Grainne, there will be an Arts in Sciences display in which we will be trialing a new consent-based feedback system. If you are interested in displaying, please keep an eye out for updates regarding this activity via the Kingdom announcements email list and through the Official kingdom social media channels.
  3. At the moment, our office is prioritizing bringing the A&S Website up-to-date and improving communication with our reports. In the coming months, we will be revising and updating the A&S handbook to be more digitally accessible and to include long-running events like Virtual Aecademy. If any members of the populace have input or feedback for our office, Please do not hesitate to message me on facebook, or through the official email at ans@aethelmearc.org.
  4. Virtual Academy is this weekend on January 31st! Hope to see you there

YIS,
