Born out of a desire for fancy garb that is comfortable and not super fitted, this project is a broad ranging look at the commonly called Turkish-Venetian coats seen in Italian Renaissance art throughout the late 1500’s.
While my project includes forays into the interconnectedness of Italian painters, war and trade between frenemy countries, and a Spanish tailors manual, the primary focus of the display is a compare and contrast of the Turkish-Venetian coats and the equivalent coats of the Turkish Ottoman empire from the same era.
My entry will include documentation, plus two full size coats displayed on dress mannequins should space allow it.
