Valdis has over 30 years of carving wood, 20 plus years of horn and bone carving. Valdis will be covering basic period carving techniques used in bone and horn carving. He will be discussing how to make your own tools and what period tools he uses. We will be discussing different material uses, and properties. We will also discuss sources for tools and materials both period and modern. While the class is primarily period based, I will cover modern tool use for those who prefer modern tools and techniques. I will have some sample pieces of material that you can try your hand at to help understand the techniques and tool use.
