This class will review medieval European paradigms of color, interpretation of dye recipes from medieval European manuscripts (9th to 16th centuries), substrates and reagents used to make medieval dyes, and practical demonstrations of dye making. Hands-on experience is available if you want to actively participate as we work our way through eight dye colors. Other colors will be explored if time allows. Class is free to attend. Handout is 18 pages, in color, $5.
