The Berthold Sacramentary and other works of the church in Germany and Switzerland in the 13-14th c often included needlework to embellish or repair the parchment. I have not seen anyone attempt to recreate this, so I am experimenting with the needlework techniques and stitches that must have been used. Digital images allow stitches, thread, even holes to be examined and magnified, making it possible to learn more than I expected about exactly how these were done.
